First-time Chalice Lighters
At the age of five, children may assist with lighting the chalice for the first time in the adult service. This is an important and popular rite of passage in our congregation. Families should indicate an interest with the Director of Religious Exploration or indicate their child is a first-time chalice lighter on the Sunday Services sign-up sheet located in the Information Center in the north vestibule. The service coordinator for the Sunday service will contact you and make arrangements to connect with the minister and the Director of Religious Exploration before the service starts to honor the child at the service and give them a special chalice pin to commemorate the special event. Many times, children light the chalice as part of their birthday celebration.
Child Dedication
Each year at the Fellowship, the minister and the Director of Religious Exploration welcome new children into the congregation at a special event know as a child dedication. Families bring their child or children before the congregation to express mutual commitment to bringing up the child in the highest spirit of UU values. Please contact Emmie, the Director of Religious Exploration, and/or Elizabeth, the minister, if you wish to take part in this special ceremony.
Deck the Halls
The first weekend in December is our annual kick-off to the winter holiday season. On Saturday, December 3, children, youth and families will gather to decorate, eat treats and rehearse their parts for the Sunday worship service on December 6. So, mark your calendars now!
Religious Exploration Celebration Sunday
This year, our second annual Celebration Sunday will feature all the classes presenting what they’ve learned over the year in their religious exploration class rooms. Creative hearts and minds develop what they’d like the congregation to know about how they’ve grown over the year.
