Member Positions
Sue Philley, nominated to fill the position of Vice-President
Sue served for several years as Director of Religious Education at the
Unitarian Universalist Church of Arlington, Virginia. She was a board
member and past president of the National Liberal Religious Educator's
Association (LREDA), representing the profession on the UUA Church Staff
Finance Committee in Boston. She has organized special events and
conferences, led fund raising and capitol campaigns, contributed to
long-range planning, and created intergenerational worship services.
At the Pacific Northwest District level, Sue has served as a religious
education consultant and worked with long-range planning and AGM
committees. At BUUF, she's been active in many program areas, most
recently with the "FUNdraising" Committee and the new Green Sanctuary
Committee.
Sue has directed non-profit organizations in the United States and
abroad. Currently, she coordinates a 4-H youth development program with
the University of Idaho's Extension Services. A past president of the
Idaho Earth Institute, Sue is passionate about the sustainability
movement and the role that local communities must play in meeting the
social and environmental challenges of our time.
Elton Hall, nominated to fill the position of Secretary
My first contact with UU occurred when Kathy and I were married by
Rev. John Clark, then minister of the UU church in San Diego. Our elder
daughter was married in the UU Church in Santa Barbara. We were briefly
members of the Santa Paula UU Church. We consider ourselves lucky and
blessed to have found a vibrant UU congregation in Boise.
After Occidental College, we went to the University of California,
Santa Barbara, where I received an M.A. in philosophy. I taught
philosophy and religious studies, with a diversion into sociology, until
I retired in 2002.
Since finding BUUF in 2004, I've had the privilege of serving on
several committees, including the Library Committee, Adult RE Committee,
co-chairing the Sunday Services Committee, and, currently, the Personnel
Committee, Committee on Ministry and Sabbatical Leave Task Force. We
belong to a Chalice Circle, and I co-chaired with Kathy and Suzanne
Woodcock the AGM Boise 2007 Committee. Rev. Elizabeth Greene and I have
taught several Adult RE classes. At the moment, I'm a member of the Ada
County Board of Community Guardians, and serve as project assistant for
the 16-college Vision Implementation Project of the Continuous Quality
Improvement Network (CQIN).
Dale Winke, nominated to fill one of the Director at Large positions
I was born in 1966, under the sign of Pisces; it fits me well. I
have been fortunate in both my formal and informal educational
experiences. Having attended both private and public secondary schools,
I was presented with many unique opportunities and experiences. I put
off college though to work at a marina and boat storage business owned
by my parents back in Ohio on the south shore of Lake Erie. On the
upside, during the off-season, I traveled the world, spending several
months at a time in Western Europe and in South-East Asia. Born and
raised a Roman Catholic, over time I drifted away from "organized
religion" as my view of the world expanded.
In 1987, I met my wife Lou Ann, and we are now approaching 20 years
together. We are blessed with four wonderful children: Gordon 18, Emily
17, Nickolaus 14, and Claire 11. In January 2002 I decided leave the
family business and return to school. In the wake of September 11th and
after much soul searching, I knew that I needed to do more. In June of
2004, I graduated with an Associate of Applied Science in Architecture
and Construction Engineering. Then in July of 2004, we loaded up a
moving van and headed west, we arrived in Boise July 28th. We moved in
part so that I could finish a Bachelor's degree in Construction
Management at Boise State. Relocation has also meant a better life and
brighter futures for everyone in my family. While graduation is still a
few semesters off, I get to live my dream everyday – working for ZGA
Architects and Planners in downtown Boise.
I found Unitarian-Universalism through my interest in Architecture
and while trying to understand what made Frank Lloyd Wright, a
Unitarian, tick. I found the Boise Unitarian Universalist Fellowship
while wondering around our new neighborhood, walking the dog on a hot
summer day. For a long time, I considered myself an independent free
agent, however, even while we are taking our separate routes, it is
reassuring to know that I am not making the journey alone. I find great
satisfaction at BUUF and as a UU in terms of our commitment to social,
environmental, and a host of other issues. We live and take action
rooted in the very nature and principles that make
Unitarian-Universalism unique and so very much needed in our local
community, and throughout the world.
Beyond my family and Architecture, I am also passionate about
aviation, space exploration, classical music, reading and books, riding
my bike (rain or shine), and many of the same things many UU's love. I
also make time for Grey's Anatomy, Brothers and Sisters, and the best
show ever in the history of television – Battlestar Galactica. You may
laugh at that, but I dare you; the writing, the acting, and the story
telling are second to none.
