"Poetry Counterpoised," Deb Smith.
Debra Smith and other aficionados of the artform will read a
variety of thoughtful poems, first from one perspective, then from
another. It promises to be a thoughtful and thoughtprovoking morning

"Suffer the Little Children," Rev. Elizabeth Greene
On this Social Action Sunday, Elizabeth will reflect on our society's
attitude toward children, as reflected in fiscal and social policy. She
also has some "interesting" views on Unitarian Universalist attitudes

Unitarian, Bellevue, WA
There are only two ways of being in this world: Love and Fear. We are

to the UU summer camp, Eliot at Seabeck, where UUA Moderator Gini Courter was
the featured speaker.

"The Return of the Hochunk: Reconciliation after 142 Years," Bruce and Sheryl Dowlin
The story of the 2005 return of the Winnebago (Hochunk) tribe
to their former reservation site in Mankato, MN, where unexpected discoveries
led to an emotional reconciliation between area whites and the Winnebago, who
had been unjustly expelled from their homes in 1863. DVD slide presentation

Our involvement as volunteers with biological research and
conservation programs raises the question: Is environmentalism more than just a

Eight folks from BUUF went to New Orleans after Hurricane
Katrina to volunteer their time and effort in rebuilding. Come learn what
they did, how they made a difference, and how it changed their lives.

Thursday, December 21, one service at 7 pm
"Winter Solstice Celebration," led by the Rev. Elizabeth Greene and the ever-faithful Solstice Team
This annual favorite is a reflective service celebrating light's
return and pondering what we want to leave in the darkness and what
bring into the light. About an hour long, it very appropriate for
children who can sit relatively quietly for that long. BRING HOLIDAY
GOODIES FOR THE FESTIVE PARTY AFTERWARD!
Sunday, December 24, one service at 10am
Quaker-style meditation, led by The Rev. Elizabeth Greene.
As we did last year on
Christmas Day, we will gather in a circle in the sanctuary, observe silence for
an hour, broken only when one of us is "moved by the spirit," to use
the Quaker terminology. Nursery care and multi-age Sunday School available.

Traditional Christmas Eve Service, The Rev. Elizabeth Greene.
Carols, traditional reading from the book of Luke plus contemporary
readings, a Christmas homily by Elizabeth—capped by the lovely
tradition of going outside, lighting candles, singing "Silent Night."
Children under 10 who are comfortable behaving worshipfully are welcome
to join us, as are all children over 10 (comfortable behaving
worshipfully, of course). There will a program for children under 10 who
choose not to attend the service.
