Ways to "get the word out" about events at the Fellowship:
The Sunday service
Sunday bulletin blurb: Add a blurb about an event in the Sunday
bulletin. Keep it short and send it by e-mail by noon Thursday (9am in
summer) to Gerry Morris at
.
Announcements: We have limited opportunity for verbal announcements
on Sunday morning. The Sunday Services committee has agreed that events
of relevance to the whole fellowship can be announced at the service.
Type the desired text in 50 words or less and bring it to the service
coordinator for approval on or before the Sunday you want the
announcement. The service coordinator can also approve a blurb which you
leave on seats at the service, but be sure to pick up leftovers after
the service. (See the Sunday calendar
for the name of the service coordinator.)
Sunday bulletin insert: You can add a flyer to the Sunday
bulletin. It should be half of a legal sized paper (or smaller). Design
the flyer and make sufficient copies for the bulletin. Someone from your
committee must come to BUUF on Friday to help collate the Sunday
bulletin. Alternatively, come early on Sunday and add your flyer to
bulletins before people arrive.
Work the crowd before or after services. Approach people
directly as they visit on Sunday morning. Talking to people as they wait
in line for first Sunday potluck is also very effective.
Vestibules: Greet people at a table in the vestibules as they
come and go from BUUF—a great position for ticket sales or to
distribute informational flyers on events or issues of interest.
Decorate your table to draw attention to what you’re doing. There is a
signup sheet in the literature rack near Gerry's desk in the office to
reserve either the north or south vestibule. You may sign up for only
one vestibule to give others an opportunity but, if no one signs up then
the other vestibule maybe used. Signage and tables must be put away at
the end of the services on Sunday.
The BUUF website has weekly
announcements and an events calendar.
Announcements submitted to the office for the Sunday bulletin and to
the newsletter editor are posted here. Submit other items to
.
Directory: Contact BUUF members and friends in the directory. The
BUUF directory has phone numbers and e-mail addresses for many people
likely to be interested in your event or request. Spend some time making
calls, or send e-mails to let people know about your event.
Newsletter: Our BUUF newsletter has a circulation of 300+,
including BUUF members and friends. Type up a blurb and send it to
by noon on the third Thursday of the month. We have
more information on
newsletter submissions, with requested format, etc. Review a
recent newsletter to see how your event might fit with current
format.
Senior Sages: This group of seniors linked to BUUF meets at 9:30 on
the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month at the Copper Kitchen. You can
make announcements at that event.
Community: Events can be promoted outside of BUUF through the
community calendars of the Idaho
Statesman, Boise Weekly
and New West, by posting flyers in
coffee shops, laundromats, etc., and by word of mouth to friends and neighbors.
Contact the Publicity Committee for more detailed suggestions.
